Have you ever thought about how you might not get a chance to choose your family, but you can choose to make your friends your family? I had a turbulent childhood and made the choice to find friends I could call family instead of embracing my broken immediate family. I am grateful for the lessons of that choice. In many ways it enabled me to create long and depth filled relationships with friends, and step back from my family and take my time in repairing those relationships.
Do you find you are more drawn to your blood relations or to the family you have created through friends and mentors? Have you taken time to think about why you are closer to blood relations or closers to friends?
No matter what kind of family you have, whether it be small or large, made of friends or blood relations, family is integral to helping us growth and supporting us in our lowest moments. No on is an island. We need others to help us progress and we have a need to help others progress.
Today's challenge is to list your family, blood relations or friends, and then by each person's name write a thank you for what they have given you in this lifetime. You can take is a step farther and call or speak to each person in person and tell them thank you for being a part of your family.
