― Israelmore Ayivor, Shaping the dream
I've heard many a celebrity and persons in places of power proclaim that they are not a role model so their actions are not important. The truth is that everyone is a role model to someone. You don't have a choice in the matter. No matter who you are, or how you act, there will always be someone watching you.
If you are a parent, it is easy to understand that you must live your best life as an example to your children. For everyone else, it can be easy to forget that our lives, choice and actions do not solely effect us, but are also emulated by others we associate with even if we don't realize it.
I remember when I first realized that my life and actions were being watched by others. In that moment I had to make a choice to strive to be my best or ignore the fact that I was a role model to others. I encourage you to embrace the former.
When we acknowledge and embrace the responsibility of being a role model, we add another layer of accountability to our lives and actions. Do you need to make better choices? Do you need to strive? Are you careful in what you say and how you treat others? Would you want another to live their life as you live yours?
Being a role model and embracing it is a blessing. Today's challenge is for you to look out for who is watching you and be grateful. Thank that person for looking up to you, and thank them for allowing you to look more objectively at your life and choices.
Now that you know you are being watched, what changes will you make? Are you grateful for the revelation that you are a role model?
